CNN’s “QuickVote” polls, which they offer on their website for the public to take, are often of questionable value, or at least questionable objectivity. In light of the “Will Renault/Nissan buy a minority stake in GM?” story flying around in the press today, CNN made tonight’s QuickVote poll: “What defines an American car?”

The latest red-letter date (no, not November 5, 1955) in the history of my garage has been reached, and I’m now the owner of a new Pontiac GTO. I touched on it briefly the other day after I got home from the big adventure, but such momentous occasions deserve a more in-depth account, and so here it is.

I am now, officially, a 2006 GTO owner. Even though the car is not here in my garage yet, it now belongs to me! (Well, and Bank of America.) After a painfully long five months of waiting, today Apple and I drove up to Orlando and signed the paperwork on GTO order number JGTPG6.

My Trans Am, she is gone. Everything went smooth as silk today with the transfer of ownership. The buyer, Matt, happened to be a registered member of the LS2GTO boards where I hang out, and this morning he flew in with a bank check in hand, intending to buy my car and drive it back home to Virginia Beach.

Decided to take the WS6 out for a drive today. I don’t drive it too much anymore, maybe once every week or two, since I’ve been working at home full time. Since this is also the slow season at Apple’s restaurant, she doesn’t work as often either, so usually when I want to go somewhere I take her car.

GTO with Sport Appearance Package I don’t post anything on this site for nearly two months, then I show up out of nowhere and proclaim that I’ve ordered a Pontiac GTO as my next new car. So what happened? A few months ago, I was proclaiming proudly that the GTO sucked and I was gonna be getting my hands on a new Shelby GT-500.

1998 F-Body Unique Identifiers

This is kind of interesting. Yesterday I discovered a detailed list of all the differences between the F-body models from 1998-2002 (year-to-year changes, upgrades, etc.). Despite being the oldest year of the F-body’s final revision, 1998 looks to have several interesting advantages.
