New Year’s Eve. As fireworks crackle in the distance, Apple and I find ourselves ready to crash early for a good night’s sleep. It’s been a helluva month…or for that matter, a helluva year. With the enormous job of packing our belongings and selling our home now behind us, we move on to new challenges…but they are challenges that I am confident in our ability to meet.

I received a call from my parents this afternoon to inform me that their house had been broken into while they were out. Apparently, a couple of guys smashed down one of the doors, went inside and calmly carted out their widescreen TV, laptops and myriad other electronics in broad daylight during the middle of the day.

I start the weekends early. Six o’clock in the evening on Friday early. This weekend’s opening ceremonies were a particularly good time: I wrapped up things at work right on schedule, then I pulled the freshly-washed and Z6’ed GTO out of the garage so that Apple and I could head out for dinner.

After trying to chase her down for weeks, Apple and I finally cornered one of her former co-workers. Some time back, she learned that we were selling our home and expressed interest in taking a look at it, since she wanted to upgrade from her small condo that wasn’t even garage-equipped.

It was a fairly quiet week at work, though I don’t mean “quiet” as in “not busy.” With another product release out the door, plus a newsletter campaign and a variety of internal system upgrades, bug fixes and testing, there was plenty to do.

Last weekend, Apple and I went on our first cruise. Thanks to my parents’ membership in the Disney Vacation Club, we were able to book a three-night cruise to the Bahamas that included Nassau and Castaway Cay, the latter of which is Disney’s own private island.

Another glorious Saturday has arrived. Normally I spend much of my weekends playing games, although the past couple of weeks have been a little bit different. Since we decided to officially put our house on the market and see what happens, we’ve been making some changes throughout just to make sure everything is in top shape, in case a prospective buyer happens to come by.
