I haven’t taken any new photos of my GTO since 2006, embarrassingly enough. After the recent oil leak problem was addressed, I had a renewed interest in taking the car out for a spin. After an early-morning car wash on Saturday, I decided that some new low-light photos were in order.

Over the past decade that I’ve spent in southwest Florida, I’ve seen my share of ups and downs. One of the definite downs of my residence here has been the service offered by the local area’s Pontiac dealerships. From that fateful day in 2001 when Naples’ big-name Pontiac dealership of note first got its claws into my Trans Am, I’ve been on a roller coaster ride of poor workmanship, damaged parts, rude service writers and flat-out brainless employees of every conceivable position.

I thought the Holden plant in Australia was going to keep building the GTO through August, as they did last year, but apparently I was wrong. The Australian media reported that on June 7th, the last Pontiac GTO — clad in Spice Red metallic — rolled off the assembly line at 9:37 pm.

I touched on it briefly the other day after I got home from the big adventure, but such momentous occasions deserve a more in-depth account, and so here it is.

I am now, officially, a 2006 GTO owner. Even though the car is not here in my garage yet, it now belongs to me! (Well, and Bank of America.) After a painfully long five months of waiting, today Apple and I drove up to Orlando and signed the paperwork on GTO order number JGTPG6.

My Trans Am, she is gone. Everything went smooth as silk today with the transfer of ownership. The buyer, Matt, happened to be a registered member of the LS2GTO boards where I hang out, and this morning he flew in with a bank check in hand, intending to buy my car and drive it back home to Virginia Beach.

GTO with Sport Appearance Package I don’t post anything on this site for nearly two months, then I show up out of nowhere and proclaim that I’ve ordered a Pontiac GTO as my next new car. So what happened? A few months ago, I was proclaiming proudly that the GTO sucked and I was gonna be getting my hands on a new Shelby GT-500.
